Time for a new club badge?
Published by Simon Head on November 25, 2009
Many clubs, including our own, have changed their club badge down the years. Our current one features the original black and white stripes of New Brompton and the iconic Invicta horse, with the word Gills incorporated into its mane. But one fan reckons it might be time for a change.
Rainham End season ticket holder and graphic designer Frank Lerwent contacted Gills365 to show us his alternative Gills club badge with a view to canvassing the fans’ opinions.
Speaking to us about his alternative club badge, Frank explained, “I want the badge we show the world to be as bold, proud and worthy of reverence as the club we so passionately support.
“To this end I have taken the liberty of using my abilities in the area of sports branding and drawn a new Gillingham FC club badge.”
“Our badge should be a thing of beauty, displaying the pride we all have for our club.
“It should be ballsy and unique – Not something that’s run-of-the-mill or looks like so many others out there.
“I have kept all the relevant elements of the badge, but changed the emphasis and the dynamic to make something that is altogether bigger, bolder and prouder than what we currently have.
“I hope that fans will not be too shocked or see this as a lack of respect. It is honestly meant as an homage and a labour of love. Most of all I hope that they like it.”
