Eccles helps Gillingham win programme award

Published by Simon Head on June 10, 2009

Gillingham have received an award for their matchday programme, and it’s due in no small part to the input of Gills365′s very own historian, Eccles.

Eccles has been writing for Gills365 for more than five years, contributing a host of must-read features for all Gills fans.

And his encyclopedic knowledge and easy-to-read style of writing was called upon by the club, who invited him to write a series of historical articles for the GFC matchday programme.

We here at Gills365 are biased, obviously, but we think Eccles’ contributions to the programme were the major reason why the club were awarded the League Two “Best Read” award by the Northern Programme Club.

If you have enjoyed reading the historical articles and reports from the GFC Matchday Programme, then you’lll love Eccles’ various series here on Gills365. We’ve called them “The Eccles Files” – here’s what you can read right now on Gills365…

“Tales From Grandad’s Tool Shed” is a vivid, and at times touching, recollection of key periods in the history of Gillingham FC, as seen through the eyes of a Gills fan throughout his life.

“The Zimmer Boys On Tour” is a tongue-in-cheek account of the awayday adventures of a group of cheeky old has-been fans following the Gills in seasons past.

“Top 25 Cult Heroes 1954-1979″ counts down the great terrace heroes from 20 years ago and beyond.

“Those Were The Games” is Eccles’ current series – 79 articles covering the best, worst, most memorable and most notorious Gillingham matches from the club’s history.

Whether you’re young or old, a new fan or a lifelong supporter, The Eccles Files are a must-read series of articles for all Gillingham fans.
