Published by Simon Head on December 9, 2008
After a tireless performance in the centre of the park, Gills midfielder Curtis Weston was voted as the Gills365 Man of the Match against Chesterfield.
Former Millwall and Leeds starlet Weston polled 44% of the vote, narrowly pipping Adam Miller to the Man of the Match accolade.
Miller grabbed 38%, thanks to another superb game “in the hole” behind Simeon Jackson, scoring the opener and setting up the second.
Another standout performer from the weekend, midfielder Mark Bentley came in thirs with 13% of the poll, while the sponsors’ Man of the Match, Simon King, claimed 6%.
MAN OF THE MATCH COMMENTS
“A close call, as there were many very good performances, but Simon King must have been black and blue from the balls that he put himself in the way of, as well as the kicks and digs that he took from the opposition.”

“Difficult one this, I thought Miller, Fuller & King all had very good games but my vote goes to Curtis Weston.”

“A really close run thing, but I’ve given my vote to Weston. King, Bentley and Miller were also excellent.”

“Weston close control was excellent – the way he took possession and kept it whilst looking for the pass was great to watch.
“Miller also played really well and competed in the face of extreme provocation.
“Defence were as tight and committed as always (at home) and as games can turn on moments of excellence so a special mention to Jackson’s finish and Royce’s save.
“However to pick one – Weston just edging Miller.”

“I gave it to Miller for scoring and then flicking on for Jackson to score to make it 2-0.
“Good performances by King, Bentley and Weston while Royce was very realiable in goal.”

“Had to give it to Weston, although Miller and Bentley weren’t far behind.”
Buttery
“I agree with the opinion that Weston edges Miller with King a close 3rd.”
